Family CEO steps down at Johnson Publishing Co

Linda Johnson Rice, second-generation chairman and CEO of Johnson Publishing Co, has stepped down from her chief executive role, but is remaining as chairman.

Rice's CEO position will is to be taken by Desirée Rogers who served as White House Social Secretary in Barack Obama's administration.

In a statement, JPC said Rogers will be responsible for aligning core business strategies for all brands and would complement Rice's institutional knowledge of the business.

The statement added that Rice (pictured) will work on preserving the legacy of the company in her role as chairman.

In an interview with Campden FB back in 2007, Rice said of taking on the role of CEO: "I have a great deal of responsibility. Do I feel overwhelmed? No." (Continue reading here)

JPC was founded by Rice's father John H Johnson in 1945 and today publishes a range of titles including Ebony and Jet magazines.
