Lavazza, 20 years of calendars

By Giulia Cambieri

Lavazza, the Italian coffeemaker owned by the Lavazza family, has unveiled the 2012 edition of its famous calendar, best known for Ellen von Unwerth's 1995 pictures of Carla Bruni, the current French first lady.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the calendar, the company asked 12 photographers who had shot its previous editions to take self-portraits.

The result? A collection of pictures by worldwide celebrated photographers including Annie Leibovitz, David LaChapelle, Von Unwerth, Thierry Le Gouès and Mark Seliger in some eye-catching poses.

But that’s not all. Lavazza also opened a special exhibition at design museum Triennale di Milano, in Milan, called Lavazza, con te partirò (Lavazza, with you I will leave), which showcases all of the previous editions of the calendar, from the black-and-white 1993 edition signed by Helmut Newton to the 2012 self-protraits.

Lavazza was founded in 1895 by Luigi Lavazza and is still owned by the Lavazza family. The company has always given special attention to design and creativity.
