Although the lawyers of Bettencourt, who turns 89 this week, said they would appeal against the ruling, the judge’s decision takes effect immediately and places the heiress under the protection of her family.

Speaking to the Journal du Dimanche, her lawyer, Jean-Rene Farthouat, said Bettencourt was ready for battle and would attempt to reclaim the €15 billion in shares that she previously gave François Bettencourt-Meyers.

"I saw Liliane Bettencourt on Friday, and she is in favour of nuclear war," he said.

Eighty-eight-year-old Bettencourt, who along with her daughter collectively owns 31% of cosmetics giant L’Oreal, recently underwent a medical examination to determine her mental status.

According to reports, Bettencourt-Meyers has accused her mother’s lawyer, Pascal Wilhelm, of allegedly taking advantage of the 88-year-old heiress after Bettencourt invested €170 million in a company belonging to one of her lawyer’s clients.

"I have decided to declare all of my family assets that are currently abroad in cooperation with the French tax authorities," said 87-year-old Bettencourt (pictured) in a statement.
