Danish family business Danfoss has been awarded the top honour at this year's CampdenFB European Families in Business Awards in Rome.

Danish family business Danfoss has been awarded the top honour at this year's CampdenFB European Families in Business Awards in Rome.

Italy’s own Illy family, behind the eponymous coffee, was awarded with the top sustainable business award.

Held in association with Societe Generale Private Banking at a gala dinner at St Regis Hotel, the annual awards, now in their fourth year, recognise European family businesses that excel in stewardship and governance, as well as revenue growth and profits.

Family-owned ceramics manufacturer Villeroy & Boch has announced it is to appeal a decision by the European Commission to fine it for its part in an alleged price fixing cartel that has implicated other family businesses.

Family-owned ceramics manufacturer Villeroy & Boch has announced it is to appeal a decision by the European Commission to fine it for its part in an alleged price fixing cartel that has implicated other family businesses.

"The charges are unjustified in law and in fact. For these reasons Villeroy & Boch companies affected by the decision have filed appeals at the European General Court," the German-based company said in a statement.

The news comes amid negative growth figures for the Germany-based business, which traces its roots back to the tiny French village of Audun le Tiche, where François Boch set up a pottery company with his three sons in 1748.
