The Agnelli family that made its fortune in the Italian auto industry is expanding its interests in luxury goods with apparent overtures to Armani, only months after acquiring a quarter-stake in Christian Louboutin.

Agnelli scion John Elkann (pictured left), 45, the billionaire chairman and chief executive of Exor, the family-controlled holding company, has been in talks with fashion designer Giorgio Armani, Reuters reported.

Privately owned property company Grosvenor, has appointed Jeffrey Weingarten as the new chief executive of Grosvenor Fund Management, succeeding outgoing Stuart Beevor.

Privately owned property company Grosvenor, has appointed Jeffrey Weingarten as the new chief executive of Grosvenor Fund Management, succeeding outgoing Stuart Beevor.

Previously a consultant to the business, Weingarten (pictured) joined the company as non-executive chairman in September 2010. Between 1991 and 1995, he had served as the US chief investment officer at Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Outgoing Stuart Beevor joined Grosvenor in 2002, and was involved in the formal establishment of the GFM in 2005.

Cargill, the world’s largest agricultural commodities trader, will sell its shares in fertiliser company Mosaic, in a move designed to ensure the company remains 100% privately owned.

Cargill, the world's largest agricultural commodities trader, will sell its shares in fertiliser company Mosaic, in a move designed to ensure the company remains 100% privately owned.  

Founded nearly 150 years ago, the Minnesota-based company is still controlled by around 80 members of the Cargill and MacMillan families. The company said in a statement that the Mosaic transaction would help it accomplish the objective of "maintaining its status as a private company".

Hugh Hefner, founder of iconic consumer brand Playboy, has finally succeeded in his bid to regain control of the company he founded nearly 60 years ago.

Playboy Enterprises Inc announced on 10 January that it has agreed to accept the offer from Icon Acquisition Holdings, a limited partnership controlled by Hefner, to take the company private for a total of $207 million.
