Think Carlos Slim is rich? Well meet Mansa Musa I of Mali – the richest person in history.
His name might leave you scratching your head in confusion, but Mansa Musa, a 14th century African king, topped the 25 Richest People of All Time list by website Celebrity Net Worth.
After taking inflation into account, the website pegged Mansa Musa’s fortune at $400 billion (€305 billion) in today’s money, far more than Slim’s $68 billion. The African was the 10th king of the Malian Empire and owed his wealth to Mali’s salt and gold resources.
The second position was taken by one of the greatest family business dynasties of all time – the Rothschilds. The family’s wealth was listed at $350 billion.
Not far behind was John Rockefeller ($340 billion), Andrew Carnegie ($310 billion), Nikolai Alexandrovich Romanov ($300 billion), Mir Osman Ali Khan ($230 billion) and William the Conqueror ($229.5 billion).
