Family business alive with the sound of music

By Attracta Mooney

It’s not often you’ll find a link between lunchmeat and musicals, but Land O'Frost, the US’s largest family-owned packaged lunchmeat company, is asking its customers to give more than just their regards to Broadway.

The family business, which traces its roots back to 1941, has launched a competition to find talented singers and dancers with a love of musical theatre.

From 23 January, families can submit a musical-inspired video, complete with singing, dancing and acting, in a bid to win a trip to New York City, where they’ll attend Camp Broadway – known for its musical summer camps.

The public can vote for their favourite videos, which have to feature one of five songs – Give My Regards to Broadway, Oklahoma, Do-Re-Mi, All Shook Up or Steal Your Rock 'n' Roll – on Land O'Frost's interactive website, LandOMoms.com.

Their favourite, as well as one chosen by Camp Broadway's panel of professionals, will then be named as winners.

Wonder if third-generation David Van Eekeren, who now leads Land O'Frost, will submit a video?
