Delegates to the latest and greatest Campden Family Connect Indian Family Office Conference say the programme was “thought provoking and agenda setting”, providing much needed intelligence and networking opportunities.
The fifth edition of the conference was themed around the progression of India’s fledgling family office space. The two-day event was chaired by Devendra Surana, of Surana Group, second generation member from one of the leading legacy business families of Hyderabad, and Abhishek Goenka, chief operating officer, family office, with RMZ Corp, one of the largest commercial real estate developers in India.
The conference began with the chair taking the audience through his professional journey and giving a prelude to the day’s programme that comprised keynote sessions and panel discussions. This was followed by a session on the Indian economic outlook which pointed towards “consumption” driving the growth story in the coming years.
A panel discussion with distinguished chief investment officers from large single family offices traced the evolution of family offices in India—from inception, to growth and outlook. The second panel discussion for the day had principals from international family offices as well drawing similarities and differences in the investments patterns and allocation strategies of Indian families and the rest of the world. The panellists concurred that diversification/investments should be geographically agnostic.
Sessions by partners on luxury real estate, private boarding school and investment opportunities in UK along with key findings from The Global Family Office Report by Campden Wealth with UBS also added to the day’s knowledge quotient.
The second day witnessed topics on tax landscape in India, the Liberalised Remittance Scheme and art as a growing investment avenue. This was followed by highly interactive roundtable discussions that gave the audience a chance to engage and learn on the pre-decided topics—starting a family office, estate planning and a guide to investing in start-ups.
