Al-Futtaim group and DC Aviation form new business jet company in Middle East

Family-owned Al-Futtaim Group, the Dubai-based automotive, retail, electronics and financial services conglomerate, has signed a joint venture with DC Aviation to establish a new executive business jet company in the Middle East.

The new company, which will start operations in 2009, will serve the high-end Middle East market and aim to capitalise on the exponential increase in executives opting for privacy, time savings, convenience and superior personalised services.

Al-Futtaim CEO and family member Omar Al-Futtaim said his company was particularly pleased to have been able to attract DC Aviation, Germany’s leading operator of business jets, as its new partner.

“It has become increasingly important and much easier for corporations and individuals in this region to utilise private business aircraft as an efficient means of transportation,” he said.

“The new company will focus on meeting demanding requirements of the private aviation business and attracting top business executives through an array of personalised services.”

DC Aviation was founded in 1998 as a wholly owned subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler AG and acted as the car manufacturer’s in-house airline. It was acquired by investor Dr Lutz Helmig in 2007 and merged with executive charter company Cirrus Aviation in 2008. Its fleet includes Gulfstreams, Falcons, Challengers and Learjets.
