Family business issues tackled by Leading Ladies of Switzerland

By Alexandra Newlove

Paths to success, approaches to philanthropy and preparing the next generation are just some of the topics Switzerland's “leading ladies” will discuss in a new event hosted by Campden Wealth.

Leading Ladies of Switzerland: Family, Business and Beyond, held in partnership with Swiss private bank Julius Baer, will be an “intimate but relaxed” gathering of some of the country's most influential and interesting women, organisers said.

The evening event will coincide with the launch of Campden's latest research report, which looks at the motivations and challenges women in Switzerland face charting their businesses and family legacies.

Rebecca Gooch, director of research at Campden Wealth said the preliminary findings were “fascinating”, with a great deal of scope for discussion on the night.

“The women we interviewed were kind enough to open up about their lives, delving into personal stories about their upbringings, the gender related challenges they have faced, and the ones they believe women across Switzerland continue to face,” Gooch said.

“They also talk candidly about their approach to managing their wealth, along with the successes and challenges they have encountered in their business and philanthropic endeavours.”

Suzy Mayhew, director of events at Campden Wealth, said the evening of cocktails, conversation and flying dinners would be interspersed with interviews with some of the women who took part in the research.

“This will really bring the study to life and help convey these stories, whether the women are business people, mothers, philanthropists, investors – or all of the above,” Mayhew said.

The event, aimed at high net worth women, would also celebrate the emergence of more influential women of wealth.

“Switzerland has a lot of expertise in wealth management and private banking, which for many generations has been the preserve of men,” Mayhew said.

“We're now seeing that change and part of this event is to shine a light on that. This goes beyond tokenism.”
