Campden Wealth's family business awards coming to Americas

By James Beech

Campden Wealth is calling for nominations for its inaugural gala awards in the Americas to recognise the best-in-class family enterprises across the region.

Organisers at the New York wing of Campden said they were “shocked” to discover there were no existing awards recognising excellence among multigenerational business families of sustainable wealth on the entire continent.

Inspired by CampdenFB’s long-established prestigious European awards, they resolved to open nominations this week for awards for the Americas, across five bespoke categories. They will host a private gala dinner and presentation ceremony in Miami, Florida on 25 March, 2019.

“With all of the political chaos in North and Latin America, and really around the world, we wanted to highlight something truly positive—family businesses,” Brien Biondi (pictured), President of Campden Wealth, said.

“They provide often much needed stability, jobs, and values. We see this huge positive greatly outweighs the negative you are always reading about and seeing on the news.”

Founders, principals, next-generation family members, and their non-family executives will gather for the historic debut ceremony where the cream of the Americas family business community will celebrate excellence across five categories:

•          Family Business of the Year

•          Family Business Leader of the Year—Family Member

•          Family Business Leader of the Year—Non-Family Member

•          Family Business Rising Star

•          Sustainable Family Business of the Year

“We’re looking for families who are making a great deal of difference in the lives of their employees, their local communities, and the world beyond,” Biondi said.

“These movers and shakers are an exemplary model for their peers, colleagues, and other businesses around them.”

The judging panel will consist of family business owners, academics and experts, in addition to Biondi and Nicholas Moody, editor of CampdenFB, who will bring his experience of judging European finalists to the Americas edition.

“Family businesses are the beating heart of economies across the Americas and these awards give some of those “hidden champions” the chance to have their efforts recognised and celebrated,” Moody said. “I’m excited about some of the fascinating businesses that the Americas event will uncover”.

Following the awards, families are invited to join their peers for two days of thought-leadership, networking and the sharing of best practices at the Americas Families in Business Conference. Biondi said invited and qualified family-owned enterprises will have the opportunity to learn what others are doing to grow the business without losing control, how to best engage the next generation, and ways to best handle intra-family conflict.

The Americas event will run in parallel with the 16th European Families in Business Conference in dynamic Milan on 2-3 July, featuring the European Families in Business Awards 2019 on the evening of 2 July, in association with BNP Paribas Wealth Management.
