The gin market may have remained flat recently, but the popularity of Bombay Sapphire has nearly tripled since the famous spirit, which is used to make cocktails such as martinis and negronis, was acquired by family business Bacardi in 1987.

The gin market may have remained flat recently, but the popularity of Bombay Sapphire has nearly tripled since the famous spirit, which is used to make cocktails such as martinis and negronis, was acquired by family business Bacardi in 1987.

According to International Wine and Spirit Research, the famous gin brand had an annual compound growth rate of 5.2% in the past three years and saw a 1.5% increase in its market share in the 12 months to the end of December 2010, up to 38%.

Buffalo Trace Distillery produces the Van Winkle bourbon whiskey portfolio, comprising four bourbons, each aged between 10 and 23 years, and they will hit selected retail stores by the end of November.

Family-controlled Coopers Brewery says it will become the largest Australian-owned brewer once a planned takeover of rival Foster’s is completed.

Foster’s, the maker of VB and Crown Lager, has agreed to an offer worth AUS$9.9 billion (€7.2 billion) from London-based brewer SABMiller, producer of Grolsch and Miller Lite.

Although it only controls 4% of the market, the Foster's takeover should make Coopers, which will enter its 150th year in 2012, the biggest Australian brewery.
