Sabrina Chao, who took the helm at her family’s company in 2003 when her father suffered a stroke, was appointed chairwoman of the Hong Kong Shipowners’ Association (HKSOA) at the organisation’s annual general meeting last week.

A third-gen of South Korean conglomerate LG Group appears to have cracked the glass ceiling at her family’s business, becoming the first female family member appointed to top management.

Koo Ji-eun, who is also a next gen of the Samsung empire through her mother’s side, was appointed vice president of LG Group's catering subsidiary Ourhome this month, 11 years after she joined the company.

Koo is the daughter of Ourhome chairman Koo Cha-hak, and her uncles are LG Group chairman Koo Bon-moo and vice-chairman Koo Bon-joon.

The matriarch of Australian family business Sue Ismiel & Daughters has this week revealed she is considering listing a majority stake in its hair removal subsidiary on the country’s stock exchange.

Sue Ismiel started Nad’s in her Sydney home in 1991 to create a more pain-free way to remove unwanted body hair. The business took off when she started marketing her wax-free gel on television infomercials.

Philippine de Rothschild, a fifth-generation matriarch of the winemaking branch of the European dynasty, has died in Paris, at the age of 80.

Philippine de Rothschild, a fifth-generation matriarch of the winemaking branch of the European dynasty, has died in Paris, at the age of 80.

De Rothschild had been chairwoman of Baron Philippe de Rothschild for almost three decades and was the first woman to head the Bordeaux winemaker.

She died in Paris on Friday "from the effects of a serious operation", the company said in a statement.
