Family offices are being embraced by India’s wealthiest $2 trillion families, but few families have a robust succession plan in place to secure their fortunes.

The world’s first study on India’s nascent family office space, released by Campden Research today, found more than half (58%) of Indian families surveyed were interested in setting up, or joining, a family office to manage, preserve and grow their wealth. Half (50%) said they were in the process of establishing their own family office.

A vast increase of wealth among the world’s aging billionaire population is creating a new wave of powerful multigenerational families, according to the new Billionaires Insights 2018 report.

The world’s 2,158 billionaires collectively increased their wealth by $1.4 trillion last year to $8.9 trillion—the largest absolute increase in billionaire wealth history.

A total of 199 billionaires were created over the year globally, with nearly one-third gaining their wealth through some form of innovation.

The number of wealthy Russian investors employing a conservative wealth management strategy has more than quadrupled in two years, according to a report due to be released by Campden Research next week.

Twenty three per cent of participants said their wealth management objective was to preserve wealth, while 42% employed a balanced approach, and 35% sought growth, according to the Russian Entrepreneurship Report 2015.

Two years ago, the figure seeking wealth preservation was 5%.
