Trussardi is the latest Italian family-owned heritage brand to accept a buy-out following a €50 million deal with an asset management firm that targets struggling businesses.

The 108-year-old fashion house said the injection from QuattroR would underwrite its five-year international development plan. The plan was agreed with Tomaso Trussardi, the third-generation chief executive who will act as chairman of the new entity.

Demand for meat drives Cargill profits

Cargill, the US’s biggest private company, has made its largest profit in six years thanks to high consumer demand for meat.

The company’s protein business was the biggest contributor to its $3.04 billion adjusted earnings for the year ending 31 May, up 85% from $1.64 billion in the previous financial year. Net profit was $2.84 billion.

David MacLennan, chief executive, attributed the strong result to a two-year restructuring effort and favourable market.

Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche announced on 3 February that its full-year net profits rose by 11% year-on-year, despite putting into place a cost saving restructuring program.

In a statement, the family-controlled company said that its profits increased in 2010 to 8.67 billion Swiss francs (€6.71 billion), from 7.78 billion francs the year before. However, its sales for the year reduced by 3%, attributed to the poor performance of its flu drug Tamiflu.
