Reckitt Benckiser CEO apologises for steriliser scandal

Rakesh Kapoor, the non-family chief executive of British multinational consumer goods company Reckitt Benckiser, has apologised for the sale of deadly disinfectants linked to fatal lung injuries in South Korea.

The apology came in the same week as Reckitt shareholders protested the chief executive’s £23.2 million ($33.6 million) pay package.

Her father, Sumner Redstone, 92, announced his retirement on Thursday. He had announced his retirement as chairman of the family’s other media empire CBS on Wednesday, where he will be replaced by its existing CEO and president Leslie Moonves.

Michael Redstone, Sumner's nephew, claimed he was owed millions of dollars by the family business after a share sale in 1984. However, after a trial which saw Sumner, Michael and various other family members testify, the Massachusetts Superior Court ruled against Michael and in favour of Sumner and his cinema and broadcasting company.
