Want a date? That’ll cost you €18,000

The wealthy might be less willing to spend money in the near future, if recent research is to be believed, but there’s one area where they’re not planning to scrimp – love.

The wealthy might be less willing to spend money in the near future, if recent research is to be believed, but there’s one area where they’re not willing to scrimp – love.

That’s right, the rich are forking out thousands to find their soul mate, according to Gray & Farrar, a matchmaking agency for high net worth individuals.

The dating service, which charges £15,000-plus (€18,075) for annual membership, has seen a 50% increase in international sales during the last year.

More than 75% of those signed up for the service are from outside the UK, despite the agency’s head office being based in London’s upmarket Mayfair.

“In times of economic uncertainty, people are forced to re-evaluate what is really important to them – for many that includes finding a partner,” said Virginia Sweetingham, founder of Gray & Farrar.

The company, which has been pairing up wealthy people for 25 years, said two-thirds of its clients find a partner within 12 months.
