Pentland Group wins third Queen's Award

Family-owned Pentland Group has received The Queen?s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category for 2008. The awards are the UK?s most prestigious for business performance, with the International Trade category recognising companies that have demonstrated substantial growth overseas.

Pentland owns the Speedo, Berghaus, Ellesse and Red or Dead brands. In the three years to December 2006, Pentland?s overseas sales almost doubled, and increased from 35% to 53% of the Group?s total revenues, which are over ?500 million.

The Rubin family founded Pentland in 1932, and the family's investment firm, Robert Stephen Holdings, took Pentland private in 1999 and now owns the company.

This is the third time the group has won a Queen?s award. Speedo won the Export Achievement category in 1997, while Berghaus won the Innovation Award in 2006.

?We are delighted to have been honoured again for our international trading achievements, and this time on a Group-wide level,? said Stephen Rubin, Pentland?s second-generation chairman.

?The cornerstones of our success are the mature and lasting relationships that we have developed, often over many years, with our partners in those countries. Our growth overseas, in a highly competitive market and in recent challenging trading conditions, bears witness to the success of this approach.?
