Coopers Brewery, which was last year voted the top international family business by CampdenFB readers, has claimed another award.
The Adelaide-based brewer, known for its pale and sparkling ales, was named Distinguished Family Business of The Year 2012 at an awards ceremony hosted by Family Business Australia at the weekend.
Philippa Taylor, the lobby group’s chief executive, said the awards celebrated the family business spirit – where the past and the future and continuity through generations were core.
She added: “It is fitting that this year, the winner celebrates a 150th anniversary. We all know their products, many of us have enjoyed their products but how many have known Coopers is a family-owned Australian company?”
Other winners on the night included Pippa Hallas, chief executive of Ella Bache – a skincare company founded by Hallas’s grandmother. Hallas took home the Next Generation Achiever Award.
“The continuing success of family businesses operating in Australia just goes to show that family business is very relevant to the Australian economy,” said Taylor.
“The fact that we’re not only seeing companies enjoying their sixth generation of family ownership, but that family businesses are still starting up and achieving tremendous success is really encouraging, and great for Australian jobs,” she added.
